It’s interesting to see how many cars have been sold under the scrappage scheme over the past eighteen months.

There’s no doubt that whilst it hasn’t helped all sectors in the motor trade it certainly has helped maintain jobs. Unfortunately with the slowdown in credit still affecting businesses and the imminent departure of scrappage (see http://www.simi.ie/utilities/pressrelease_details.aspx?id=377) there’s a strong likelihood that more garages will close over the autumn months and more people lose their jobs.

With the banks not lending, even to multinationals, something urgently needs to be done by Government to fix this problem.
